Sometimes very scared !!

Postby bronnie » Fri Jul 30, 2010 9:16 am

Do others find it scary when some new symptom happens ? To a certain extent I can cope with all the "usual" feelings of FM but I get very scared when something different seems to go wrong with me - like a pain in a different area of my body. I am fortunate that I don't get a lot of very severe pain but loads of the other effects - like IBS that stops me going out, giddiness, pains in feet etc. I live alone so there isn't anyone to help if I think I am going to faint/fall over. I try to distract myself with reading, crosswords. using the computer and following other interests. Sometimes, in desperation, I ring the Samaritans and have a chat just to hear another voice. If I am not stressed I know that I feel better physically but I still feel scared about when the next down turn is coming. I find it very hard to "live for the day" How do others cope with the fears ?If I knew how to put a smiley on here for you all, I'd do it but I'm not very proficient with the computer beyond typing !!

Hi Bronnie

So sorry you feel so scared of you're fibro flareups, you sound like your pretty isolated as well, have you looked to see if there is a local fibro support group near to where you live where you could meet other people with the same problems ? You could start with that section on here.

Also do you keep as fibro/pain diary where you could write down how you are feeling n your pain, then if something happens and you think it's new, you could check your diary to see if you've had it before. This could help someway to you feeling more in control of you're fibro and not the other way round

I guess I'm really lucky that I have a supportive husband but some of the time I do keep things to myself and worry about new symptoms as I don't want to be a moaner, like you I do try to distract myself. Also you now you can come on here and someone will always answer you :hugs:

Take care

Fab

Please take any medical advice I give as a possiblity I haven't worked as a health visitor for 5 yrs please see your GP and feel free to use my suggestions.

Hi Bronnie,

Yes i do feel scared with symptoms, especially new ones, especially when doc says they are doing yet more bloods :yikes: , then i panick until i get the results which normally makes my symptoms worse in itself

Hi Bronnie,

I agree with Fab. It is hard when something goes wrong and you are on your own and scary too but if you think something is new get it checked out by your GP. It's not moaning or bothering anybody, you simply need to be sure that its related to your fibro and then you can relax.

It rotten that you seem so isolated and again I agree with Fab if you could get to a support group you may find that new symptoms bother you less. Keep posting on here and we'll always try to be around to offer you support. Hope things improve for you soon :flowers: :blowkiss:

Thanks to you all for your kind messages. Yes, I tried to find a local support group but the nearest one is a good half hour's drive away and I found that it was too far for me to drive and none of that group live in my direction. It will be good to know that I can "speak" with others on this forum when the days seem particularly bad.
Yesterday I had good news that I may be moving house soon - at present I am living in a rented house - so then I will be settled and hopefully the stress that makes the flares worse will improve. :P
Thanks, Denys, for telling me how to add a smiley to this - hope I have got it right. Shall have to write down what you said otherwise I shall have forgotten by the time I next make a post!!!!
Am hoping, too, that when I move there will be a GP who doesn't think FM is "just hysterical women" and is more understanding than the one here !!

Hi Bronnie. Yes, I find new symptoms very scary. At the moment it's really bad eye pain I've got. You wonder if it's something other than fibro. It must be hard when you've got nobody to discuss it with. My husband is very supportive but he has Parkinson's so has a lot of problems of his own.

Smileys are easy, by the way. Just click on which one you want and it will appear in your message.

:hugs: Sheila
